Step into STEM

We were thrilled to be part of the recent ‘Step into STEAM’ Primary School Expo at the University of Essex

638 Year 6 students from 14 primary schools across Tendring and Colchester attended this exciting event focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths (STEAM). The goal? To inspire students to start thinking about their futures as they transition to Secondary school.

The event, planned by Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board (SNEE ICB) NHS, Tendring District Council and the University of Essex (UoE), highlighted the vast range of local career paths available—many of which students may not even know about yet!

With interactive activities like fibre-optic wiring, VR wind turbines, robot building, and timed plumbing challenges, the event was both fun and educational. The STEAM Fair encouraged students to engage with employers, ask questions, and discover career opportunities in their local community.

This experience reinforces how good employment opportunities can have a positive impact on health outcomes and future success.
