SPAB Essex & Suffolk Regional Group — Visit to Thorpeness

We were delighted to welcome the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) and the owners of The House in the Clouds to our West Bar Water Tower site in Thorpeness.

Owner and client Tom Leahy provided fascinating insights into his business
ARC explaining why he selected the Thorpeness water tower to join his expanding portfolio of distinctive buildings and shared his vision for the completed project.

Our Contracts Manager, Jason Banham, then led the tour, highlighting some captivating aspects of the renovation — including the discovery of some interesting finds, such as the stone window heads believed to have been cast in situ using local beach sand and stone, reinforced with bedposts and curtain poles !!! The visit culminated in breath-taking 360° panoramic views from the 5th floor, inspiring engaging discussions and a deep appreciation for the building’s history and the complexities involved in its restoration.

ROSE is honoured to be leading the sensitive renovation of this stunning heritage property in Thorpeness, Suffolk. This iconic former water tower is being carefully transformed, respecting its rich history while integrating modern sustainability features.

An inspiring day celebrating craftsmanship, heritage, and innovation!
