Housing Construction Director

We are seeking a Housing Construction Director to lead a team of contract and site managers.  In this role you will develop and implement a strategy to secure and deliver large and smaller scale residential construction projects; ensuring projects are delivered in a safe manner for the protection of our employees, clients, sub-contractors and vendors. You will work closely with the Managing Director and the housing senior management team to set standards, support the development of project execution strategies, support the site delivery project teams and act as a peer reviewer on the projects to identify risks and implement mitigation strategies. Above all, you will deliver exceptional high-quality new homes. We are a HBF 5-star developer with an expectation to maintain our status through continuous improvement and excellence.

Responsible for:  Contract managers, Project managers, site managers, directly employed trades, sub – contractors on multiple housing projects.

Candidate experience:

  • Undergraduate degree Engineering or Construction related discipline or come from a trade background and worked up through the ranks
  • 15+ years’ operating at a senior level with deep knowledge of residential construction sector
  • Background to include long term project/contracts manager and site manager roles
  • Extensive experience delivering high volume superior housing developments on time/on budget
  • Demonstrated ability to be both strategic and operational
  • Forward-thinking and conceptual, with the ability to execute multiple projects concurrently

Specific responsibilities will include;

  • Develop a strategy to maintain and develop talent within the residential construction team
  • Provide strong safety leadership in setting standards for construction safety and oversee construction field safety in person.
  • Review and improve our construction safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Develop construction execution strategies to deliver fast track projects
  • Develop and implement Lean project construction techniques
  • Support the creation of robust contracts and procurement strategy to enable quality and timely project delivery.
  • Validate commercial and contract management processes are in place
  • Ensure standard reporting processes are in place for key safety and construction KPI’s
  • Identification and implementation of Industry level standards
  • Manage multiple simultaneous cross functional project teams
  • Working with the change manager, implementation of reporting structures and information systems to ensure accurate programme reporting and risk mitigation
  • Provide recommendations to streamline or make existing processes more efficient.
  • Role model professional management skills; leadership, planning, influencing, negotiating, problem-solving, and load balancing.
  • Motivate the team using appropriate tools and techniques in order to increase commitment to the objectives and delivery.
  • Establish alliances with other departments and organizations by valuing dependencies in order to assess partnership and commitment to the programme.
  • Implement a clear communications system both internally and externally for H&S and quality assurance adherence.
  • Proactively identify risks and issues and have appropriate mitigation/contingency/action plans created by the risk/issue owner.
  • Ability to measure the health of the project/s by using the time, cost, quality, safety metrics
